Fauna
Of the original fauna in the Fathala reserve the species Tragelaphus scriptus, Phacochoerus africanus and Eryhtrocebus patas have remained. New species have been gradually introduced into the reserve since 2001. First approx. 28 Roan antelopes (Hippotragus equinus) were transported here, several head of Defassa waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa), Kob (Kobus kob) and African buffalo (Syncerus caffer). 
They adapted well to the local conditions and breed well. In 2003 the introduction of new species from Bandia continued, 2 giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis) -sub-adult male and female, 10 Common elands (Taurotragus oryx) and a pair of White rhinos (Ceratotherium simum). The animals are doing well. 2 watering holes were built for the animals in the reserve.
The Fathala reserve is nowadays the only place in the world where yo can easily see the Western giant elands. The herd of 13 bachelor males crosses the woodland and you can meet them eye-to-eye.
